The REWE-Navi: The Signs Point to Sustainability

  • Project no.1416
  • Duration 03/2009 - 10/2009

The project aimed at the development of a long-term master plan towards the "REWE-Navi" (long: navigation system) and the preparation of shortly available results of two pilot studies to assess sustainability performance of products. The master plan includes, amongst others, the following:

  • Overall requirements concerning REWE products labelled as ecologically and socially beneficial,
  • Instruments to establish and ensure transparency and credibility (e.g. product profiles at website) and
  • Concept of organisational measures in responsible departments (e.g. purchase, quality assurance / auditing processing, communication) for the master plan implementation.

Within the project two pilot studies have been conducted involving internal and external stakeholders to identify and prioritise sustainability aspects along the analysed pilot product chains. The most relevant sustainability aspects ("hot spots") have been transferred into appropriate product categories. Finally these categories have been evaluated concerning their practicability for the sustainability assessment and the REWE-Navi.
