TIDE

Transport Innovation Deployment for Europe

  • Project no.3261
  • Duration 10/2012 - 09/2015

The mission of the TIDE project will be to enhance the broad take-up of 15 innovative urban transport and mobility concepts throughout Europe and to make a visible contribution to establish them as mainstream measures. The TIDE partners will make a range of new and feasible solutions easily accessible to address key challenges of urban transport such as energy efficiency, decarbonisation, demographic change, safety, and access for all and new economic and financial conditions. TIDE will stimulate a broad exchange about urban transport innovation in five thematic clusters:

  • financing models and pricing measures,
  • non-motorised transport,
  • network and traffic management to support advanced traveller information systems,
  • electric vehicles and
  • public transport organisation.

The project will refine existing transferability methodologies and integrate them into an easy to apply transferability tool for practitioners in potential take-up cities. Training and exchange events as well as handbooks and e-learning on how to successfully implement innovative solutions will be the key tools to effectively support a wide range of take-up candidates in overcoming real or perceived barriers to implementation. The project will demonstrate how to successfully prepare implementation of urban transport innovation by supporting 15 TIDE cities in developing implementation scenarios for selected innovative concepts. TIDE will also facilitate exchange on the topic of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) as horizontal issue to foster integrated planning approaches and the inclusion of urban transport innovation in a wider strategic approach. Dedicated project activities will allow providing effective guidance on the topic of cost benefit and impact analysis for innovative solutions and undermine this with evidence from examples. Policy and research recommendations on the European level will encourage the discussion on setting the right framework conditions for enhancing urban transport innovation.
