Options for Supplying Polymer Production with Increased Material Rcycling and Use of CO2

  • Project no.350317
  • Duration 01/2015 - 09/2015

Regarding the long-term raw material supply of the German plastics manufacturing - and relevant chemical production -, the study will analyse in how far carbon recycling by sequestration of CO2 subsequent to thermal recovery of carbon rich wastes can contribute in an environmentally sensible way and under which conditions this could become economically competitive. A comparative systems analysis of various process chains including renewable energies will be conducted to elucidate  ecologically favourable development options. These will then be assessed for economic viability. A focus will be on the production of platform chemicals such as methane, methanol, and synthesis gas.
