EIO III

Measuring Eco-Innovation Up-take and Circular Economy Transition

  • Project no.350123
  • Duration 10/2014 - 10/2016

The Eco-Innovation Observatory (EIO) III project builds on the work of the EIO (2010-2012) and EIO+ (2013-2014) projects.
The general objective of the project is to create a wide societal consensus and common understanding of basic principles of a circular economy by developing sound metrics and appropriate indicators to guide and monitor policies in support of a circular economy and eco-innovation.

The specific objectives are to:

  • maintain and strengthen the Eco-Innovation Scoreboard in order to measure the eco-innovation performance in the EU and beyond;
  • develop indicators for monitoring the transition to a circular economy;
  • create a societal consensus and common understanding of circular economy and eco-innovation.

The project will develop a dashboard of eco-innovation indicators that includes socio-economic and environmental framework indicators to support interpretation of the scoreboard and measure, monitor and assess eco-innovation performance in the EU. Country profiles will compile trends and data at a Member State level, and a final report will provide an overview of all analytical findings in an attractive, informative and easy-to-follow way.

Wuppertal Institute is responsible for leading the development of the final report, producing the German country profile, and contributing to the further development of the scoreboard and dashboard, in particular with circular economy indicators.
