FES Energy Conferences

Scientific Support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation at Energy Conferences in Jordan

  • Project no.150403, 150734, 151098
  • Duration 02/2015 - 05/2017

Since 2015, the Wuppertal Institute is working with the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Amman for the conceptualisation and organisation of conferences in order to address the challenges of the Jordanian energy system in cooperation with different actors in the fields of politics, industry and civil society.

In 2015, the socio-economic aspects of renewable energies and the necessity of a sustainable transformation of the energy system were addressed.

In 2016, the focus lay on the energy-water-climate-nexus in the MENA region (Middle East & North Africa) under the patronage of Prince Hassan bin Talal and the WANA Institute. Not only were the interactions between the respective fields of interest, but also socio-economic and governance-related aspects of integrated energy and water strategies.

In 2017, energy system innovations in Jordan and in the MENA region were on the agenda. The conference was aimed at finding potential solutions to support the development of renewable energies, taking the chances of an energy system-wide transformation for the Jordanian industry into consideration.

During all of the above-mentioned conferences, experts from different MENA countries were invited in order to hold short presentations about their countries’ successes and experiences in the development of renewable energies. Additionally, discussions with representatives of parliament were held.
