SCI4climate.NRW

Scientific Competence in Industry

  • Project no.151060
  • Duration 12/2018 - 11/2022

SCI4climate.NRW is a research project supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) in connection with the IN4climate.NRW initiative to develop a climate-neutral and sustainable industry in the year 2050. The aim is to scientifically examine the technological, ecological, economic, institutional and (infra-)structural system challenges for NRW and the companies producing in NRW in the energy-intensive basic industry. The scientific work is carried out in close interaction with actors from industry and society and includes the development of studies as well as new conceptual approaches. In a transdisciplinary process with partners from industry and science, the knowledge of possible paths and their effects is to be extended to a climate-neutral industry. The Wuppertal Institute is in charge of the research project.

SCI4climate.NRW is structured into four thematic areas, each of which is led by one of the scientific project partners:

  • Topic 1: Technologies and infrastructures (Fraunhofer UMSICHT, with RWTH Aachen, Chair of Technical Thermodynamics)
  • Topic 2: Products and value chains (RWTH Aachen University, Chair of Operations Management)
  • Topic 3: Scenarios and transformation paths (Wuppertal Institute)
  • Topic 4: Framework conditions and business models (IW Cologne)

SCI4climate.NRW is the scientific part of the IN4climate.NRW initiative launched in September 2018 by the state's Ministry of Economic Affairs.
