Impact Analysis of the NRW Sustainability Bond #4

  • Project no.451611
  • Duration 08/2018 - 02/2019

The focus of this project is the evaluation of the NRW Sustainability Bond #4, which was issued in 2018 and relates to sustainable projects in the budget year 2017. The so-called "Impact Analysis" is already the third study by the Wuppertal Institute and contains evaluations for all four bonds distributed so far. This year's bond has a volume of over 2 billion euros and relates to more than 50 projects.

The Wuppertal Institute evaluated the quantifiable environmental and social effects triggered by the projects in the bond. This includes both classic areas of green bonds such as the avoidance of greenhouse gas emissions through modern and energy-efficient buildings, but also the assessment of a number of social impacts – such as the financing of additional social workers at schools in NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia). In addition to the work carried out in previous years, the project also includes an analysis of the entire state budget and the relevance of individual areas of the budget for the sustainable development in NRW.

The project consists of three parts:

  1. Analysis of the environmental and social impacts of the sustainability bond (as far as quantifiable)
  2. Summary of the results in an "Investor Briefing" (marked as summary in the overall report)
  3. Analysis of the NRW budget in relation to the national sustainability strategy

All project results were published in English on the website of the Ministry of the Environment, Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia.
