The compendium will edit in a comprehensible way the current state of knowledge concerning the integration of the policy areas labour and environment. It will also document examples of Best Practice and devise strategic options for local actors. The content is geared to the following central topics:

• fundamental terms and coherences in the context sustainable development and future of work
• development of a "sustainable work" concept
• international division of labour, impacts of WTO policies
• employment effects of sustainable policies (energy and agriculture)
• documentation of best practices (primary focus NRW)
• recommendations for the Local Agenda 21 in the action area "work and environment"

The publication will be carried out in close coordination with the responsible department of the NRW Ministry of the Environment.
