Stakeholder roundtable in Teheran

In the context of the Paris agreement adopted at the COP21, Iran pledged an unconditional reduction of GHG emissions by 4 per cent (compared to the BAU scenario) until 2030. To reach this target, the development of low carbon strategies primarily based on renewable energy and energy efficiency for different sectors (energy, transport, building, water and waste) will be of crucial importance. To support this transition, Iran and German are willing to intensify their bilateral cooperation by establishing a Dialogue on Low Carbon Strategies.

The Roundtable "Low Carbon Strategies for a Sustainable Energy Future in Iran" in Teheran brings together experts, stakeholders from Iranian ministries and agencies with distinguished representatives from the German Federal Ministry of the Environment and from leading German energy and climate research institutes. Among these is Wuppertal Institute's Stefan Lechtenböhmer, director of the research unit "Future Energy and Mobility Structures", who will present in his keynote an overview of the potential, costs and benefits for Iran in following a pathway towards a sustainable energy future. He will also take part in the presentation on how to improve climate resilience of the Iranian energy sector through modernisation and implementation of low carbon technologies.
