  • News 28.05.2018

In the end of April, the Wuppertal Institute in cooperation with the Moroccan research institute MENARES organised the first successful stakeholder workshop of the WANDEL project. In this project, called "Water Resources as Important Factors of the Energy Transition at the Local and Global Level" (WANDEL), scientists examined within a case study on solar thermal power plants (CSP) in Ouarzazate, Morocco, whether limitations in the availability of water can accelerate or delay the global energy transition.

The aim of the workshop was to discuss socio-economic development pathways and their effects on the water demand together with local stakeholders. Twenty-one participants from the agricultural and water sectors as well as from the local administration and civil organisations discussed different development factors and developed first rough socio-economic water demand scenarios for the region.

The project partners of mundalis, the United Nations University, and the University of Osnabrück accompanied the team of the Wuppertal Institute on the trip to Morocco. Further information about the project can be found under the following link.
