  • Events 10.10.2018
  • Location Brussels, Belgium

The official launch of the Climate-KIC flagship "Re-Industrialise" is taking place on 10 October 2018 from 5pm to 8pm as a side event of the European Week of Regions and Cities. Together with experts, the event aims to discuss how innovative solutions do shape the transition of industry regions. Keynotes will be given by Prof. Dr. Philipp Schepelmann (Wuppertal Institute), Dr. Mike Cherret (Director of European Affairs at EIT Climate-KIC), and stories from the Industrial Park in Frankfurt (Prof. Dr. Hannes Utikal, Provadis School of International Management and Technology, as well as Andreas Konert, Infraserv) to link up the discussions between research and industry.

Industry is crucial to the prosperity of regions. However, industrial clusters are oftentimes very energy and resource intensive, with significant greenhouse gas emissions and a high dependence on resource availability. Shifting from carbon-intensive industries while ensuring a stable economy and secure jobs has become a more and more pressing issue within recent years. Transformation pathways need to aim at maximising economic, environmental and social opportunities while supporting innovative solutions at the interface of economic development and decarbonisation. Therefore, the EIT-Climate KIC Flagship Re-Industrialise aims to facilitate the transition of European industry regions with high-emitting industry clusters to low carbon innovation hotspots.

Does the region or city want to make the transition to a low carbon economy? Or are they a business that can offer innovative, low-carbon solutions to support the shift? The "Innovative Solutions for Transitioning Industry Regions" event will bring together policymakers, cities, industry professionals, and businesses that aim to accelerate their transition pathways.
