The jubilee congress "100 Years VGB" planned for this year is postponed to 2021 due to the Corona pandemic. Nevertheless, the VGB will use the original date, 9 September 2020, to draw the industry’s attention to the association and its anniversary with a top-level online event.
Prof. Dr. Manfred Fischedick, Scientific Managing Director of the Wuppertal Institute, will give a keynote speech at 2.45 pm entitled "The challenge for the European energy system of the future – reflected from a holistic perspective". The lecture will take a broad look at the demands on the European energy system from a climate policy perspective, related to the security of supply aspects and the need to think in cross-sectoral dimensions. For the latter, topics such as sector coupling, joint infrastructure development and integrated policy approaches play a central role. The presentation also includes the social perspective on the European energy system of the future and examines the role of participation patterns, social expectations and acceptance.
Afterwards in the live panel discussion, Manfred Fischedick will discuss together with Dr. Rolf Martin Schmitz, CEO of RWE AG, Dave Bryson, COO of Uniper SE, Dr. Simone Peter, President of the German Renewable Energy Federation, and the Chairman of VGB PowerTech e. V., Dr. Georgios Stamatelopoulos about the "European Energy System of the Future".
