From 16 to 19 October 2023, the University of Rwanda, in partnership with the City of Kigali and the UN Environment Programme, hosts Walk21 Kigali, the first Walk21 conference on the African continent.
Experts from across Africa and around the globe will share insights and expertise on how to develop and implement walking policies and programmes that deliver walkable communities and safer streets, broader community participation and enhance the value of walking.
During the four day event, Prof. Dr. Oliver Lah, Head of the UN-Habitat Collaborating Center Research Unit at Wuppertal Institute, and Boitumelo Manala, Junior Researcher in the same Research Unit, will present the SOLUTIONSplus project and the TRANS-SAFE Living Labs project. Lah will also give a presentation about "Transformative Living Labs for safe and climate-neutral cities" at the conference.
Politicians, engineers, campaigners, academics and planners will share their experience and discuss affordable actions to transform the urban paradigm, help deliver on safety, equity and climate goals and attract investment for urban development that supports people walking.
