The creation of affordable and equally social housing is a central challenge of sustainable urban development. To meet these challenges, innovative forms of housing, such as community housing projects, have an important role to offer, as they have multiple social sustainability aspects and can thus contribute to sustainable urban development. In this context, the question remains open whether communities in housing projects remain consistent after their initiation. The aim of the thesis was to answer the following research question: "How can community housing projects remain permanent in terms of their further development and thus support sustainable urban development in the long-term?"

To answer the research question, a qualitative study was conducted in the form of narrative interviews with residents of community housing projects. The findings from literature and practice were able to identify eight particularly relevant factors for the persistence of community housing projects: Social mixing, organizational structure, community care, trust, social network, communication culture, lived sustainability, flexibility, and adaptability. These factors enable a sustainable and adaptable community that can contribute to sustainable urban development. For this purpose, community housing projects should further develop their existing potentials.
