Against the background of peak oil and climate change, the study examines oil and greenhouse gas reduction potentials with regard to the earthbound passenger transport.
The study aims at a systematic analysis of quickly attainable effects until 2020. It focuses on federal policies, which are relatively easy to implement and quickly to realise within the existing transport system.
Subjects of the study are instruments promoting fuel saving types of vehicles, alternative fuels, a fuel saving way of driving and fuel reduction potentials in public transport. The study researches and evaluates the available knowledge relevant for policymakers, draws a consistent roadmap and identifies research gaps. The study addresses federal politics, which have to be coordinated with the corresponding EU-strategies.
