EnerAct – Urban Production in the Ruhr Area (Subproject in EnerAct – Energy System Transformation and Social Megatrends)

  • Project no.151519
  • Duration 04/2018 - 09/2019

The overlapping of the energy transition by megatrends such as digitalisation or demographic change requires more than ever integrated problem-solving concepts for the implementation of the energy transition. In addition to the technical aspects, those concepts need to focus on the socio-economic characteristics of the individual regions and municipalities, while taking possible changes caused by the megatrends into account.

The aim of the subproject is to identify and develop cooperation models between established (large) companies and young enterprises in the production sector. Thereby, the effects of decentralisation of industrial production on energy and resource consumption as well as on the development of greenhouse gas emissions are investigated. Furthermore, the implications of urban production for work culture and quality of life in the companies and the according regions are examined.

The project is funded by the Mercator Foundation.

Institute for Work and Technology (Lead), Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT.
