EnerAct - PtX Use Pathes in Wuppertal (Subproject in EnerAct - Energy System Transformation and Social Megatrends)

  • Project no.151520
  • Duration 06/2018 - 06/2018

The overlapping of the energy transition by megatrends such as digitalisation or demographic change requires more than ever integrated problem-solving concepts for the implementation of the energy transition. In addition to the technical aspects, those concepts need to focus on the socio-economic characteristics of the individual regions and municipalities, while taking possible changes caused by the megatrends into account.

This subproject aims at the analysis of various hydrogen use paths on the district level in Wuppertal in cooperation with the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW). First, an overview of possible pathways in the electricity, heat and mobility sectors is compiled and analysed. With the help of a systemic evaluation matrix, that will be developed in the subproject through the analysis of the socio-economic situation in the corresponding quarters, the pathways relevant for Wuppertal will then be identified. The subproject finally leads to the development of an implementation concept for a selected path.

An important element is the intersection of the requirements of the energy transition with the megatrends of demographic change, urbanisation and individualisation, as they influence the demand for electricity, heat and mobility. Especially the megatrend of digitalisation is a key element for the implementation of a selected pathway.

The project is funded by the Mercator Foundation.
