Feasibility Study "Liveable Steets, Places and Neighbourhoods"

  • Project no.252262
  • Duration 07/2020 - 06/2021

The pre-study "Liveable streets in resilient urban neighbourhoods" provides a conceptual framework for the transformation of urban neighbourhoods and neighbourhood streets into climate-resilient, green and decarbonised places of high-quality living. It picks up national and international trends in urban planning and urban redevelopment from pioneering cities such as Vienna, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Paris, etc. On the one hand, it aligns urban/neighbourhood planning and development with the ecological challenges (e.g. climate change/adaptation, biodiversity) and, on the other hand, puts more emphasis on human interests.

Building on the pre-study, a feasibility study will be carried out in this project, which has two central objectives:

  • Preparation of detailed planning drafts for the reconstruction of two neighbourhood streets in the Ruhr area
  • Development of a concept for scientific support to identify and communicate project findings

The Wuppertal Institute cooperates with the Emschergenossenschaft and the cities of Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen within the project.
