Provision of Technical Support/Services for an Economical, Technological and Environmental Impact Assessment of National Regulations and Incentives for RE/EE

  • Project no.2135
  • Duration 05/2009 - 02/2010

In June 2008, the Regional Centre for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency ("RCREEE") was set up in Cairo as a regional policy platform. RCREEE presently has ten member states (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine Authorities and Yemen, collectively the Member States). The set up of RCREEE is supported by Denmark, Germany and the EU, in addition to contributions from the host country Egypt. RCREEE aims to promote cost effective policies and instruments for the enhancement of renewable energies ("RE") and energy efficiency ("EE") in the RCREEE member states.
The project goals are to provide RCREEE and the Member States(i) With an overview and an assessment of existing policies and instruments presently being used in the Member States in order to promote renewable energies and energy efficiency;
(ii) The methodologies to assess these policies and instruments from the perspective of "evidence based policies" and "theory based evaluation"; as well as (iii) Specific recommendations for the further development of RE and EE policies and (iv) Methodologies for the integration of climate policy objectives in the policy making process.
In cooperation with local experts in all mentioned countries, MVV Decon and the Wuppertal Institute compile country-by-country analyses that result in separate country reports. These reports together with documents of country-specific energy policies will be presented on the RCREEE website after the finalisation of the projects.
Workshops on the topics will be conducted in each of the RCREEE countries during the project.
