EMN

The Environmental Management Navigator

  • Project no.6101
  • Duration 11/2001 - 12/2004

The project aims to familiarise a minimum of 500 small and medium sized enterprises (SME) in developing countries with various environmental management instruments as well as to show the benefit of environmental management in general and to offer praxis-oriented implementation aid. For this reason, the Environmental Management Navigator (EMN) has been developed as a concept for qualification in SME in the field of environmental management. The concept comprises various environmental management instruments, among others, cost accounting, environmental management systems, environmental reporting and product chain management. The concept provides support for SME to make a choice of appropriate instruments as well as their integration in the working routine.
Under assignment of InWEnt (former Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft) and in co-operation with UNEP and UNIDO the Environmental Management Navigator (EMN) has been developed. It was first successfully applied during a qualification workshop in Bonn, 12. - 15. December 2001. The workshop communicated the qualification programme to trainers from 20 countries (Train-the-trainer) before they, in a following step, used the Environmental Management Navigator in their function as multipliers for the carrying out of further qualification workshops in SMEs in their countries (Train-the-target-audience). Some follow-up training has already been taken place in India and Peru.
