The annual EurAsia Waste Management Symposium (EWMS) has taken place from 2 to 4 May 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey. The event pointed out a comprehensive overview of effective waste management strategies across Asian and European regions. Members of universities, industrial organisations, public institutions and organisations, local governments and legislators are discussing and evaluating regional waste management strategies and recycling projects to establish business or research relations and to expand their network for future projects.

Dr. Henning Wilts, Head of Wuppertal Institute's Research Unit Circular Economy, presented the paper "Digitalisation of Waste Flows for The Realisation of Industrial Symbioses in Vietnamese Industrial Parks", written by him, as well as Anne Müller, Susanne Fischer, and Gunda Azak, Research Fellows of the same Reserach Unit. The paper discusses the rapid economic growth of Vietnam that has caused a series of environmental problems in industrial parks, such as rising amount of waste, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and polluted air and water. To address these issues, the government has introduced the Green Growth Strategy to promote a sustainable growth on basis of green technologies and resource conservation.
