The latest assessment report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as well as several other reports once more reiterated that time to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement is running out. To change course, the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) needs to send a strong impulse to accelerate the global energy transition. In addition, developing countries expect a substantial increase in support from developed countries, including for dealing with loss and damage caused by climate change.
The Wuppertal Institute and Table.Media are following the negotiations and will debate the conference results at the Wuppertal Lunch "Lessons from COP28 – Between Progress and Challenges" on 18 December 2023 from 12.30 to 14.00 CET.
What did the conference deliver, what expectations were met? Did the monster COP with 90,000 visitors in the United Arab Emirates live up to its claim of being a historic meeting? These questions will be discussed by a panel with the following participants:
