Until now, the existing potential for energy efficiency and sustainable transport sector has only been implemented to a small degree in Germany. By introducing the Joint Implementation (JI) instrument under the Kyoto Protocol and issuing emission credits for achieved emission reductions, new instruments and incentives for emission reduction activities are available.
The objective of the research project is to identify promising project types for the application of JI in Germany and to estimate their potential. The methodical requirements for the determination of emission reductions in these project types will be defined. Finally, recommendations for the utilisation of JI in Germany will be developed and the transferability of the results to other industrialized countries examined.
