A key goal of this project is to appropriately represent in an energy model the possible future advances in Turkey in regard to increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy utilisation. To this end a bottom-up energy model, which has been used for many years at the Wuppertal Institute, will be applied to Turkey with the help of the project partner, the Institute of Energy at the Technical University in Istanbul. Based on detailed country-specific data this model structure will be used to derive medium to long term energy scenarios for Turkey.
The results of these scenarios will be compared to existing energy scenarios for Turkey as well as to recent energy scenarios for Germany. The scenario results and the insights gained during modelling are to lead to recommendations for future energy policy measures in Turkey. A key goal of the modelling approach is to highlight the potential role of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in reducing conventional energy demand, fuel import dependency and environmental impacts.
Throughout the duration of the project several workshops will be organised in order to discuss the (preliminary) results with various stakeholders.
