Assisting the Ecodesign Process

Implementation Support for EU Directives on Energy Efficiency and Labelling of Products

  • Project no.1181
  • Duration 04/2012 - 03/2015

How can implementation measures for energy-related products in the context of the European Ecodesign Directive be designed in such a way that ecodesign aspects are comprehensively considered and ambitious requirements set? This is the central question of a project in which the Wuppertal Institute participates as subcontractor of Ökopol GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA).

The UBA and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) are actively involved in the processes and institutions on EU level and in Germany for the implementation of the Ecodesign Directive. By accompanying preparatory studies, short papers and stakeholder workshops, this project provides support for the institutions with regard to these processes. The work concentrates on four product groups:

  • ENER 28 - Pumps for private and public wastewater and for fluids with high solids content
  • ENER 29: Pumps for private and public swimming pools, ponds, fountains, and aquariums and other clean water pumps
  • ENER 30 - Products in motor systems outside the scope of the Regulation 640/2009
  • ENER 31 - Products in motor systems outside the scope of the Lot 30 and the Regulation 640/209 on electric motors, in particular compressors
