The project analyses the ecological promises as well as potential risks and conflicts of the ongoing digital transformation with regad to the requirements of the broad range of environmental policy areas. Internal experts of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) together with external professionals from various sustainability and digitalisation backgrounds work closely on identifying and refining a set of strategic options and tangible measures for safeguarding sustainable pathways of the digital transformation. In March 2020, the findings are compiled in a Digital Policy Agenda for the Environment of the BMU. This Digital Policy Agenda for the Environment aims at spurring a broad public societal and political debate on sustainable pathways of digitalisation. Moreover it will provide a compass on digitalisation that steers further work on environmental policies and regulations.
The Wuppertal Institute contributes to the elaboration of the Digital Agenda with scientific expertise in numerous areas of energy, climate, mobility and ressource policies including the sustainability dimension of digital transformation.
