Resource Perspective on the Circular Economy in Germany

  • Project no.351960
  • Duration 01/2020 - 03/2021

The predominantly linear system of production and consumption is based on the consumption of natural resources, which in Germany is far above orders of magnitude classified as sustainable and indeed also significantly higher than in other industrialized countries.
Against this background, the Wuppertal Institute supported the Circular Economy Initiative Germany (CEID), coordinated by acatech and systemiQ, on behalf of the Stiftungsfonds für Umweltökonomie und Nachhaltigkeit GmbH. The scientists developed a resource model that will allow the targeted identification of suitable options for action, their evaluation from a resource perspective, and the identification of barriers that may need to be addressed.

Concrete work packages include the modeling of a target image of a future circular economy and the support of the working groups on traction batteries and packaging.
