Support for the Development of a Zero-Waste-Strategy for the Free State of Saxony

  • Project no.352464
  • Duration 01/2021 - 04/2024

On behalf of the Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology, a Zero-Waste-Strategy for Saxony is being developed within the project, which aims to maximise the potential of waste avoidance, reuse and recycling of municipal waste. This is intended to both meet the German Circular Economy Act  requirements for waste prevention, reuse rates and recycling rates, and minimise the construction of new waste disposal facilities and the export of waste.

The project members initially focus on promoting the recycling of organic, food and plastic waste, and other recyclables and problem materials in Saxony. Waste prevention and reuse strategies already practiced in Saxony will be considered and additionally other strategies will be examined for their suitability for Saxony. INTECUS and Ökopol are developing individual strategies for the focused material flows as well as organising and conducting stakeholder dialogs. Based on this, the scientists of the Wuppertal Institute prepare a catalog of measures, formulate targets, and integrate all previous results into a comprehensive overall concept.
