Climate Impact of the Waste Management in Düsseldorf

  • Project no.1321
  • Duration 03/2011 - 08/2012

The aim of this project is to present perspectives to optimise the treatment of waste in Düsseldorf with the target of reducing greenhouse gases emissions. On the basis of the sorting results of a current analysis of domestic waste, two different scenarios will be looked at. It is assumed that the valuable materials, which are still in the domestic waste, are handled in two different ways. The resulting climate balances comprise on the one hand greenhouse gas emissions generated through the incineration of the waste streams, and on the other hand the identified used thermal energy and the generated electric energy including the thereby reduced greenhouse gas emissions as well as the identified reduced greenhouse gas emissions through substitution of primary material taking the effort of recycling into account.
