Sustainable Basque Country

  • Project no.2304
  • Duration 12/2003 - 10/2004

The Wuppertal Institute will support our Basque partner LKS to produce a study commissioned by the Basque Economic and Social Council - Consejo Económico y Social Vasco (CES). The aim of the project is to develop proposals for the elaboration of a sustainable development policy in the Basque Country integrating the economic, social and environmental dimensions.
The comparative report covers both the European Union and a number of countries and regions selected because of its outstanding position in terms of their national/regional sustainable development strategy.
The work is arranged into three different phases:

  • Recollection and analysis of relevant documents of the European Union concerning the integration of the environmental dimension into the common policies.
  • Recollection and analysis of a series of strategies developed at national and regional level in order to establish their key aspects in terms of conception and implementation.
  • Evaluation of the Basque Strategy for an Environmentally Sustainable Development and proposals for key elements to set up a Strategy that integrates the three dimensions.
