Increasing Ambition in the Low-Carbon Transition

COP24 side event in the EU pavilion: challenges and implications of the 1.5 and 2 degree targets

  • Events 06.12.2018
  • Location Katowice, Poland

This side event combines insights from five research projects working on climate change mitigation from different angles which are funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 and LIFE programmes. One of these projects is the COP21:RIPPLES project, of which the Wuppertal Institute is one of the partners.

The presentations will provide answers to the following key questions on how to reach the Paris Agreement goals:

  • What impacts will arise from a global warming of 1.5C and 2C and which impacts will be avoided if warming is kept below 1.5C? (CRESCENDO project)
  • NDC Review: What does it really take to increase pre-2030 Ambition from Global, EU and National Level Perspectives? (COP21 RIPPLES project)
  • Investigating Innovation Dynamics in low-emission transition pathways: what are the implications across different sectors and applications? (TRANSRISK project)
  • Raising awareness about climate policy: what are the opportunities for decarbonising Poland? (WZROST project)
  • Supporting public authorities in reaching their climate and energy targets: what are the main challenges in implementing sustainable energy plans at regional and local level? (PUBLENEF project)

The side event will take place in the EU Pavilion on 6 December from 14.30 to 16pm. Further information can be found under the links below.
