Wuppertal Institute and Earth4All seal Partnership

Official Memorandum of Understanding enhances joint research, policy advice and communication

The Wuppertal Institute and Earth4All – an initiative for a just and sustainable economic system coordinated by the Club of Rome – have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). "Especially in times of multiple crises, we need cooperation, knowledge transfer and the courage to embrace holistic solutions," emphasise the partners. With their agreement, the Wuppertal Institute and Earth4All are deepening their cooperation – and sending a clear signal for shared responsibility and a determined push towards a brighter future for all. "Earth4All relies on strong scientific partners worldwide to bring about real change. We are therefore all the more delighted to be working with the Wuppertal Institute, such a renowned partner with close historical ties to the Club of Rome," says Till Kellerhoff, Programme Director at the Club of Rome.

Based on the MoU, cooperation in key areas of sustainability research and policy advice is to be intensified. The focus will be on joint analyses of national policies as well as the socio-economic assessment of development paths for Germany, but also for other countries. The book Earth4All Deutschland, published in 2024, provides a suitable framework for this. The Wuppertal Institute and Earth4All aim to further deepen the dialogue with relevant actors from politics, science, business as well as civil society, and jointly develop strategies for a socio-ecological transformation within the planetary boundaries, while communicating their findings via suitable formats. "Our collaboration aims to consequently translate scientific findings into policy recommendations. Only in this way can we actively shape the transformation towards a sustainable and just future: with science as the engine for real change," says Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Fischedick, President and Scientific Managing Director of the Wuppertal Institute.

Collaborative book marked the start of the new partnership

The Club of Rome and the Wuppertal Institute have been working together for many years, for example in the context of joint events, scientists who are members of the Club of Rome and, last but not least, a collaborative book project.
In October 2024, the Wuppertal Institute and the Club of Rome provided valuable impetus with their book "Earth for All Deutschland – Aufbruch in eine Zukunft für Alle" (English roughly: Earth for All Germany – Embarking on a Future for All): The book makes it clear that the goals of ecological sustainability, economic stability, and social justice are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, the authors outline strategies and measures for Germany to achieve all three goals at once – and encourage us to recognise the necessary changes as an opportunity for a better future.
