Carbon Market and Article 6: Ready and Raring to Go?

Carbon Mechanisms Review "Ready for take-off?" published

  • News 18.11.2025

The current issue of Carbon Mechanisms Review focuses on the problem area of non-permanence: this refers to the lack of permanence of climate protection measures when already achieved emission reductions or removals are reversed – for example, due to natural influences, man-made factors such as mismanagement, or changes in local conditions that make further carbon storage unattractive. Non-permanence is one of the key challenges for the integrity of carbon markets – and accordingly is a central topic of the current Carbon Mechanisms Review.

Also in this issue: an article on national capacity building for Article 6 through academic networks in countries participating in the SPAR6C (Supporting Preparedness for Article 6 Cooperation) programme, a piece on effective governance for the transition from the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) to the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism (PACM), and an analysis of the Article 6.4 Sustainable Development Tool, which was approved by the Article 6.4 Supervisory Body at the end of last year.
