For the second time in a row, Prof. Dr. Henning Wilts, Director of the Circular Economy Research Division at the Wuppertal Institute, has been elected to the steering committee of the PREVENT Waste Alliance. With his re-election, the international network reaffirms its confidence in Wilts' scientific expertise and his long-standing commitment to waste prevention and the transition towards a global circular economy.

The committee is composed of experts from the private sector, civil society and academia. In addition to Wilts, Maxwell Odonkor (World Inspiring Network), Stefanie Beitien (PCX Solutions), Reinhardt Smit (Closing the Loop), Rahul Juware (Social Lab) and Simone Andersson (IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute) are also members of the elected Steering Committee. Together with the chair of the committee, Lars Selwig (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ) and Barbara Friedrich (Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, BMUKN), they will continue to support the strategic development of PREVENT and further strengthen the alliance as an effective platform for innovation, international cooperation and circular economy solutions.

Looking ahead to 2026, the PREVENT Waste Alliance sees great opportunities to further deepen cooperation and unlock the full potential of the circular economy through strong partnerships and sustainable networks. “I am delighted by the renewed trust and the opportunity to continue my work on the Steering Committee. In the coming years in particular, it will be crucial to combine scientific evidence, practical experience and political momentum.”

About the PREVENT Waste Alliance Steering Committee

PREVENT Waste Alliance is guided by a Steering Committee elected by its members, ensuring transparent, inclusive, and strategic decision-making. The Steering Committee members provide strategic direction, represent the diverse perspectives of the alliance, and support its secretariat in advancing PREVENT’s mission to eliminate waste and foster circular economy solutions through collaboration.

Initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (German: Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung, or BMZ for short), the PREVENT Waste Alliance was launched in May 2019. It serves as a platform for knowledge exchange and international cooperation. Organisations from the private sector, academia, civil society, and public institutions jointly engage for a circular economy.
