Iranian-German Conference in Teheran: Climate Policy and Sustainable Development - Opportunities for Iranian-German Co-operation

  • Project no.4205
  • Duration 03/2003 - 10/2003

Strengthening the European/Middle Eastern relations bears an important strategic meaning for overcoming the existing barriers to international agreements on climate protection and sustainable development. Iran and Germany are countries of particular political importance in these regions. Intensifying the co-operation between these countries in these policy areas could be a focal point for a new form of co-operation between oil-producing countries and industrialised nations.
Against this background, the Iranian-German project "Climate Policy and Sustainable Development: Opportunities for Iranian-German co-operation", initiated already in the year 2002 in close co-operation with the University of Osnabrück and the "Center for Environment and Energy Research and Studies" (Teheran/Iran), was continued (second phase of the project). The project focussed on an Iranian-German conference in Teheran in May 2003, but also on the developing and co-ordinating detailed project proposals and preparing the ground for the implementation of a joint Iranian-German committee.
