DualStrat

Strategic Management of the Dual Transformation

  • Project no. 352888
  • Duration 04/2023 - 04/2026

Integrated digitalisation and sustainability are key drivers of a future-proof economy – and the concept of dual transformation encompasses both. The DualStrat project aims to unlock the potential of this conjunction: Digital technologies can effectively support corporate sustainability goals, for example by optimising production and resource flows, or using data-based solutions to strengthen circular business models. At the same time, digitalisation itself needs to be sustainable.

With the DualStrat project, the Wuppertal Institute, together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Systems Design (Fraunhofer IEM) and the Heinz Nixdorf Institute, creates a conceptual basis for dual strategy development. Building on this, the project team develops practical approaches and tools to drive forward the interlinking of digitalisation and sustainability at the corporate level.

In addition, ambitious pilot projects are realised in cooperation with four leading industrial companies – Schmitz Cargobull, Böllhoff, Weidmüller and Hanning Elektro-Werke – to test the implementation of dual use cases in practice. In this context, the Wuppertal Institute is involved in the development and implementation of a Digital Product Passport (DPP) at Böllhoff as well as a holistic digital and sustainable supply chain management system at Hanning.

The results of these various projects will be incorporated into transferable strategy models that serve as practical orientation for companies in the region and beyond, for their own dual transformation.
