H2-diplo: STECA

H2-diplo: Study Tour – Enhance Climate Awareness

  • Project no. 153884
  • Duration 07/2025 - 06/2026

Saudi Arabia and Germany are committed to addressing global challenges and share the common goal of advancing the energy transition. Both countries have pledged to pursue goals in the fields of climate and energy, as reflected in key international processes such as the final declaration of COP28. As part of its Vision 2030 initiative, Saudi Arabia is actively working to enhance environmental sustainability, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote resource-efficient technologies. A core element of this transformation process is raising environmental awareness across all sectors of society to ensure broad support and active participation in shaping a sustainable future. Germany's extensive experience in climate awareness, green innovation, and decarbonisation solutions, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia, offers valuable insights for Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategy.

To foster this collaboration, the "H2-diplo: Decarbonization Diplomacy" project will facilitate a "Study Tour: Enhance Climate Awareness" (STECA) to Germany in October 2025 for a Saudi delegation. The tour aims to promote technical dialogue and mutual learning on key topics such as hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCS), circular carbon economy, and waste-to-energy technologies.

The purpose of "H2-diplo: STECA" is to support the H2-diplo team in the technical design and organisation of the study tour. The Wuppertal Institute will play a key role in developing a coherent concept and programme, identifying relevant institutional visits, and facilitating knowledge exchange between German and Saudi stakeholders in the fields of decarbonisation and sustainable technologies.
