E-mobil NRW

  • Project no.3131
  • Duration 12/2009 - 12/2011

The E-mobil NRW project is part of the model region for electro-mobility in the Rhine-Ruhr area. It is funded by the program "Model Regions for Electro-Mobility" of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Public Development.
The project entity consists of 12 partners: the Stadtwerke Düsseldorf (Düsseldorf Municipal Utilities) as well as other members of the Municipal Utilities Forum NRW (Brühl, Emmerich, Fröndenberg, Hilden, Monheim, Oelde and Schwerte), the city of Düsseldorf, the Lufthansa Technik AG, the Drive CarSharing GmbH, and the Wuppertal Institute.
The aim of this project is to develop an infrastructure for battery charging and to test the applicability of electric vehicles for private and commercial use. The Wuppertal Institute was commissioned to provide the accompanying scientific research which will include comprehensive empirical analyses. The research results shall provide input for the aforementioned partners regarding possible new services and business fields in the area of electro-mobility.

  • Concerning the battery charging devices it is of particular interest to assess the everyday importance of a public infrastructure in comparison to domestically available power sockets. Also the acceptance of various pricing and tariff models will be examined.
  • The model project includes the distribution of scooters and also passenger cars to private test households for a limited time span. It will be assessed how the use of electrical vehicles affects mobility patterns of households with different mobility needs. Other focal points include the acceptance of electro-mobility and electricity from renewable energies which shall be used to charge the electrical vehicles and also how electro-mobility is experienced in general. Furthermore, it will be assessed under which circumstances the participants would be interested in buying an electric vehicle in the future.
  • Concerning commercial use of electrical vehicles it will be analysed where electro scooters, electro passenger cars and electrically powered light-duty commercial vehicles could come into use with regards to technological limits of use on the one side and logistical demands on the other side. The findings are used to determine substitution potentials in the car fleets of selected praxis partners and possible positive ecological effects.
