CREEA

Compiling and Refining Environmental and Economic Accounts

  • Project no.3339
  • Duration 04/2011 - 05/2014

The project CREEA aims at refining and elaborating economic and environmental accounting principles according to the envisaged SEEA 2012, to test them in practical data gathering, to troubleshoot and refine approaches, and show added value of having such harmonised data available via case studies. Key areas covered comprise resources and waste, energy and climate change / Kyoto accounting, water, and forest. By this means, the project builds on work and experiences from previous projects focused on developing harmonised data sets for integrated economic and environmental accounting, most notably EXIOPOL, FORWAST and a series of Eurostat projects in Environmental Accounting.

CREEA will develop further EXIOBASE, i.e. the EXIOPOL database, on the one hand by extending EXIOBASE by physical input output tables, on the other hand by updating both monetary supply and use tables, and their physical environmental extensions. By doing so, a physical and monetary global multi-regional Input-Output table system will evolve that differentiates more than 150 industrial sectors and 180 product groups, 30 emissions, 80 material categories, and that distinguishes 43 countries plus the rest of the world. The set of Environmentally Extended Multi-Regional Input-Output Tables (EE MRIOT) that follow the System of Environmental-Economic Accounts (SEEA) 2012, including the Physical Supply and Use Tables (PSUTs), is a unique contribution by CREEA that enables various types of international environmental-economic analyses.
