Assistance - Management Board of the EEA

  • Project no.2273, 250387, 250783, 251110, 251510
  • Duration 06/2012 - 06/2018

In 2012 the European Parliament nominated Prof. Dr. Peter Hennicke as one of the scientific experts of the European Parliament and as member of the Management Board of the European Environment Agency (EEA). The EEA's task is to provide those who develop, conduct and evaluate environmental policies with independent and reliable information about the environment. The Management Board consists of one representative for every member state, two representatives of the European Commission and two scientific experts nominated by the European Parliament. It decides on all general research activities (approval of (multi)annual work programmes and reports) and on the management of the EEA (nomination of the Executive Director and members of the Scientific Committee).

Working for the Management Board includes, besides participating at conferences in Copenhagen, a lot of preparatory work. As representative of the European Parliament it is also important to maintain close contact and continuous coordination with the European Parliament, the responsible Committee of the Parliament (Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), and the environmental experts of the political groups in the European Parliament. In order to support Peter Hennicke in these duties the funding of an assistance is provided by the "Friends of the Wuppertal Institute".
