Factor X Technologies for the Basque Region

  • Duration 03/2005 - 06/2005

IHOBE's aim for commissioning the study was to foster the uptake of resource-efficient technologies and set up a database of technologies that qualify for tax reductions to improve the competitiveness of Basque companies while reducing the environmental burden caused by economic activities. Based on the MIPS methodology a method has been developed allowing non-expert users to quickly check the resource-efficiency potential concerning a range of environmental resources. The development has been supported and illustrated by testing the methodology against a set of ten innovative technology examples.
Parallel to the methodology development, the potential of internet platforms aimed to foster the use of innovative environmental technologies have been examined. In this vain, international best practise platforms were identified and evaluated against a set of indicators. Besides the information content of technology descriptions and the user friendliness emphasis was also put on the compilation of further (external) information, the level of innovation, and the administration effort to run the platform. As a summary an ideal platform has been outlined based on the findings.
