Knowledge, Application, Understanding and Experiencing of Artificial Intelligence

  • Project no.451712
  • Duration 02/2019 - 12/2019

Artificial intelligence – a term that combines computer systems, machines and robots that are able to gain new knowledge autonomously. Today, these systems already have a big impact on various aspects of our daily lives. Artificial intelligence (AI) is also the focus of the Science Year 2019. In the adjoining project an exhibition with eight learning units will be created to give students, apprentices, teachers and other educators the opportunity to experience AI systems, use them and learn about their relevance and the meaning of computer science for our (future) work and private lives.

The exhibition provides practical basic knowledge about methods, applications and potentials of AI systems to the target group. The different topics and applications suitable for daily use (e.g. AI based assistant services, language technologies, augmented reality or autonomous robotics and AI) will be presented as didactically prepared learning units. Within these, an array of important questions and discussions about various areas of use for AI systems as well as their limitations and ethical concerns will also be covered.

The Wuppertal Institute will take part in conceptualising and building three learning units and will be in charge of public relations. Moreover, it will present and supervise the learning units at vocational colleges, education fairs and other events. The learning units will be presented at ten all-day events.
