Geistige Eigentumsrechte an genetischen Ressourcen

Weder ökologisch noch sozial gerecht

  • Publications 01.03.2008

Biological diversity and seeds have become contested resources during the past couple of years. Intellectual property rights, such as patents or plant diversity rights, are instruments that try to equate diversity with value. However, this is neither ecologically useful nor socially fair. This paper points to the consequences of intellectual property rights of genetic resources and resolves the dichotomy between society and nature. Concepts on ecological fairness and the Environmental Justice Movement show ways how to handle with genetic resources.
