In the federal-state programme "Mobil.NRW – Pilot Projects for Innovative Public Transport in Rural Areas", the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) is funding 15 innovative pilot projects in North Rhine-Westphalia that aim to improve public transport in rural areas and thus facilitate the shift from cars to sustainable forms of mobility. In addition to on-demand services, sharing services and innovative line-based services are also tested.
The "Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW" (roughly Network for Future Mobility NRW) has contracted the Wuppertal Institute and the Planersocietät Frehn Steinberg Partner GmbH with the evaluation of the pilot projects. This includes the development of specific evaluation concepts as well as technical support for the local evaluations. In addition, an overall impact evaluation will be conducted across all 15 model projects. The Wuppertal Institute coordinates the evaluation, which covers both the impact of the pilot projects as well as the planning and implementation processes. Based on the results, recommendations for action will be developed for the permanent implementation of the successful projects as well as for transferability to other regions in NRW.
