Co-Creation of a Sector-Independent Software Toolkit for Digital Product Passports

  • Project no. 353367
  • Duration 01/2025 - 12/2027

From 2027 onwards, the Digital Product Passport (DPP) will be introduced gradually in the EU, initially for certain types of batteries and later for numerous other product groups. For many companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and suppliers, this means major challenges in terms of content and technology. The easy.dpp.nrw project aims to develop a comprehensive toolbox that supports companies in getting started with Digital Product Passports while making their technical implementation easy, especially for circular economy applications.

As part of the easy.dpp.nrw project, the Wuppertal Institute, together with Celano, the Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences and Agathon, develops modular and scalable DPP solution modules that work across all industries and sectors. The focus is not only on complying with legal requirements: The DPP should also enable companies to benefit from circular value creation and competitive advantages.

To ensure the toolbox is suitable for practical use, the project team is trialling all results extensively before publishing the easy.dpp software kit. This will enable companies in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and beyond to fully utilise their potential in the area of Digital Product Passports and implement the entry into the circular economy in a targeted and straightforward manner.
