Accompanying Scientific Study on the Planning and Development of Communal, Space-Efficient Housing in a Cooperative and Neighbourhood

  • Project no. 253822
  • Duration 07/2025 - 07/2026

The residential cooperative "Neustart: solidarisch leben + wohnen eG" (English roughly "Restart: living and residing in solidarity") is planning an integrated housing and infrastructure project with around 170 residential units for some 400 residents in the city of Tübingen. As part of an accompanying scientific study, the Wuppertal Institute will examine the construction process as well as the architectural and conceptual planning in the two reference frameworks – cooperative and neighbourhood – and will provide scientific support for the implementation, with a focus on sufficiency in construction and housing.

Various modules are planned for this purpose:

  • Consideration of sufficiency in planning, construction, housing and utilisation
  • Development of a mission statement for sustainable living in the Marienburg area
  • Development of an indicator set as a monitoring tool

For both spatial units, cooperative project and neighbourhood, it is important to take into account the various actor groups involved, such as the architectural office, actively involved persons from Neustart eG, future residents of the cooperative project and neighbourhood, responsible stakeholders from the municipal side, as well as other stakeholder groups. To this end, the project team will develop appropriate dialogue formats and take on the planning and preparation of possible events.
