The European Topic Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production

  • Project no.3329
  • Duration 01/2009 - 12/2013

European Topic Centres (ETC) are part of the European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET) and contracted to the European Environment Agency (EEA). They assist the EEA with the implementation of its mandate and tasks, i.e. providing information on the state of the European environment and assessment of European environmental policies. The ETC on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ETC / SCP) aims at providing reliable and comparable data and information on SCP, resource and waste management in Europe.

At the Wuppertal Institute the research groups "Material Flows and Resource Management" and "Sustainable Production and Consumption" are involved in the work of the ETC, addressing various topics with an annually updated work plan. Topics include:

  • Sustainable use and management of natural resources
  • Waste
  • Sustainable consumption and production (SCP)
  • Policy effectiveness
  • Life cycle assessment
  • Material flow accounting
  • Framework on indicators
