INNOMAT

Innovation Management through Integration of LCA Training

  • Project no.451846
  • Duration 01/2019 - 12/2019

KIC-Raw Material offers companies solutions to their risks with Crititcal Raw Materials (CRM) in their products, however many companies are not aware of any risks. They are interested in Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), but these are laborious or expensive. For an LCA, the masses of materials in the product (including CRM) have to be known. Innomat offers with a cours for companies an affordable insight in LCA and CRM-risks, and methods on how to be more resource resilient. Many methods are from the KIC-Raw Material school, which makes this project a contribution to build-up the KIC-Raw Material community.

Performan an LCA of products or processes gives a company valuable information on the environmental footprint. An LCA could also help to map the risks of CRMs for the companies' operation. However, the existing LCA method is complex, laborious, not focussed on business solutions, not integrated in operational excellence management tools aiming at innovation, does not give any overview of risks CRMs can have for operations. This project offers two setes of training material:

  1. Innovative LCA / CRM teaching material that makes LCA benchmarking and CRM analyses more accessibl by SMEs, and easier to use. There will be a focus on recycling and renewable resources, and places the risk of CRMs in products under attention.
  2. Teaching material for Product & Business Innovation (i.e. eco-efficient value creation of innovative products and services and how to apply the results of LCA/CRM in the circular economy).

The course is focussed on designers, engineers and business managers.
