The global climate crisis is coming up against a geopolitical realignment that is characterised by increasing armament, fossil fuel extraction ("drill baby, drill"), ambitions to control critical, strategic raw materials and authoritarian alliances. In some cases, these developments are in direct contradiction to the necessary efforts to protect the climate, conserve resources and achieve social justice. This is because a geopolitical realignment, which entails, for example, increased defence spending, limited availability of strategic raw materials and increasing social inequalities, is associated with disruptions in the envisaged transformations towards climate and resource justice.
Against this background, the aim of the project "ClimResWorld – Climate and Resources in the New World Order" is to explore research topics regarding the resilience of (inter)national strategies concerning climate, energy and resources in the context of the current geopolitical challenges. One focus will be on analysing the effects of geopolitically changing framework conditions as well as the achievability of global and national goals for a climate- and resource-friendly world.
