Application and Development of the Kyoto Mechanisms CDM and JI and the New Markt Mechanisms Through the JI Coordination Office of the Federal Environment Ministry

  • Project no.2274
  • Duration 11/2012 - 10/2015

JIKO is the German enviroment ministry's coordination unit for the project-based mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol and their linkage to the EU emissions trading system. In the framework of this project the Wuppertal Institute supports the ministry in developing the framework conditions for use of the Kyoto mechanisms through scientific advice and supporting public relations work. The project therefore comprises two parts:

1. Scientific advice: One of the main tasks is to prepare policy papers and statements to support the work of the ministry. Most of these documents are for internal use only. Therefore they can only be made public after consultation with the Ministry. In addition to that, the project team organises workshops in order to discuss selected topics with the expert community, thereby contributing to agenda setting.

2. The JIKO team produces various publications dealing with CDM and JI including a quarterly magazine. The JIKO Website features an introduction to CDM/JI as well as a service platform for project developers. Moreover, the project team develops flyers, brochures as well as contributions to social networks.
